DIY Wort Chiller for Homebrewing

A budget-friendly guide to building your own wort chiller for homebrewing using materials from Biltema. Total cost around 600 SEK.

One day, I was bored and decided to build a wort chiller for my slightly unhealthy interest in homebrewing.

Previously, I used a makeshift setup in the shower, but it didn’t work quite as well as I’d hoped.

1. Strip the Plastic Coating #

Remove the plastic from the copper pipe using a knife (preferably one you don’t mind dulling).

2. Trim the Pipe Ends #

If the copper pipe is pinched at the ends, cut them off for better flow.

3. Shape the Coil #

Bend the copper pipe into a spiral—no special tools needed, I used a pot for this.

4. Attach Support Sleeves #

Since copper is soft, use support sleeves at the ends where you’ll clamp hoses.

5. Connect to Faucet #

Attach the setup to your faucet, and you’re good to go!
